In 2013 a Linux-savvy user discovered that his LG TV actually sent data to the company about what the TV was used for.1

LG’s far from the only one, though, cause Samsung’s voice-controlled SmartTV might eaves-drop and send your every word to a third-party service 2, and even if your TV isn’t online by itself we’ve got Google’s Chromecast to check on you.3

So, keep an eye out for when the ads in your mail start to mimic the product placements in your favorite show.
